I am delighted to point you to a website I created for a friend, www.spiritualevents.net. The site provides a wonderful opportunity for people all over the world to promote their events - for free. While the site focuses on spiritual events - who would have thought that ;-) - yoga, qi gong, tai chi, healing and similar teachers/groups are also strongly encouraged to use the site as a platform to promote their events.
On SpiritualEvents.net people can
- Promote events (one-off and ongoing, in two separate sections)
- Do extensive searches on the spiritual events database, by location, teacher/group, etc.
- Write articles about spiritual topics
- Write short news snippets about their current offers or activities
- Browse profiles of registered spiritual teachers and groups
- Receive event notifications
- Receive a regular newsletter
This functionality is great for a start I think, more features like embedded multimedia and live webcast facilities are in the planning stage.
However, tons of features are worthless if they are not used, so please promote the site where ever you can so that it can truly flower and serve its purpose.
For technically interested people: the site is based on ruby on rails. Highlights are the
- Ajax
search with convenient auto complete select boxes, a custom made
combination of a standard autocomplete textfield with a drop down menu
for choosing from the available options. I will describe these soon on
railstoolkit.com a site dedicated on sharing rails specific stuff
(when its done ;-)) and the
- Rich text content editing using tiny MCE.
